fingers crossed the carbs just work. I'm not looking forward to removing them from a built up bike. it was difficult enough to fit them tonight as it was minus lots in my garage. I used a hair drier to soften the rubbers so the carbs would go in.

I'm still hunting for boxes of bits I bought for the bike. Just found a bag full of mostly NOS parts that I didn't know I had, must have come with one of the bikes and I forgot about them. slightly annoying as I just bought some of them again, including carb repair kits. here are some of them :- I can /will use most of it, but the brand new Honda brake pads in the photo are rears for a CBR900 / CBR600/ VTR1000 so I will never use them.

My 2nd Fork tube finally arrived from Italy. 21 days from Europe by Fed-Ex. That must be a record for me, I've been round the world faster! Fork legs assembled this morning and fitted to the bike. Also fitted brand new handlebar, front end almost complete. the fork 'ears' could do with a rechrome really, but that will have to wait for now.

it's been pouring rain here all day, so a good day to spend in the garage. some more small progress, fitted the side stand fitted rear wheel complete with very shiny new sprocket and polished brake plate with new shoes. I haven't finished connecting up the rear brake as I seem to be missing a dust seal (item 9 here) www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb250n-1978-england_model15802/partslist/F11.html#.Y6R689XP23B I looked at spare couple of rear brakes I have and they don't seem to have it either. it is the kind of thing that could fall off, I will keep searching otherwise it will be a long wait for the new year to get one.

I am planning to send off some bits for chroming in the new year, so there may be a pause in work on the bike. due to this I have been looking at my mudguard collection. the muddy fitted to the bike in the photo from this morning is in reasonable condition, showing signs of wear, but pretty sound. the one that came with this bike needs to go for chrome, that's an understatement. the good news is that it is solid. I also have this one, which has very good chrome but is bent. as you can see, it has been pinched where the strengthening plate for the mounts is. I am no panel beater, has anyone got any ideas on how to stretch this back without causing more damage?

Ok, so patience is not one of my virtues. I just thought 'how hard can it be?' famous last words. Anyway, did a bit of measuring and it turns out that the biggest problem was that the front end of the muddy was spread, the part I thought was pinched was almost correct. I stuck it in the vice (with soft jaws) and gently squeezed it until the width was correct, a slight twist anticlockwise and it now looks a lot better. easy! I will remove it again tomorrow and try to fix the last bit around the front mounting rivets.

finished bashing the front mudguard today, it looks almost acceptable now. also threw a bit of VHT paint at the exhaust collector, not to a high standard but it was done with a brush. started on the electrics, I think I have most of the routing worked out, wish I had taken more photos before stripping the bike down though. the rats nest of cables in the headlight bowl next, there must be a neat way of doing that? Also noticed that I have routed the throttle cables below the bottom yoke, I think they should be above. A job for after Xmas.

there is (in theory) a holder in the headlight bowl for each block connector, I almost had them right on the '400 thing' until I started meddling with ignition systems
